BDS works with homeowners to design for the family life cycle, providing a place where family members want to spend time and where the needs of all ages are met. We look for ways to improve energy efficiency, use low/no maintenance materials and finishes, and create attractive functional centers.

We also make old homes “new” again by creating outdoor rooms, adding landscaping features, improving drainage, and correcting roofs to prevent damaging ice buildup in winter

BDS designs housing to meet a wide range of needs:

Affordable Housing. BDS has extensive experience with multi-family, senior, assisted living, special needs housing, single family residences, and rural teacher housing in many Alaskan communities. We have worked with owners and builders, as well for housing development institutions: Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, USDA, and HUD.

Multi-Family Housing. We design with an emphasis on providing good unit-to-unit privacy. Our townhouse-style units provide each unit with a front door. No one is living above or below another tenant. Our latest designs feature in floor radiant heat, laundry facilities in each unit and sheltered parking.

Senior Housing. Our design for "aging in place" meets the complete range of senior needs, from independent living all the way to assisted living.

Assisted Living/Special Needs Housing. We build supportive environments that provide individual apartments with accessible kitchens and baths and group spaces that are warm and friendly with good sun exposure, lighting, and acoustics.
