BDS Performs Concept Study for UAA Native Student Resource Center

Bezek • Durst • Seiser recently completed a concept study for the addition of a new Native Student Resource Center to the UAA Consortium Library. The new facility will provide a comfortable atmosphere for Alaska Native and non-Native users to meet, study, conduct academic activities, and hold cultural events. New interior spaces will impart a feeling of the nature and light of the Alaskan landscape, and will be especially welcoming and relevant for rural Alaska Natives. Intended to be a warm, friendly, and familiar place, BDS incorporated curved and circular design elements found in rural communities. The goal is to create both a center of activity for UAA's Native Alaskan students, and a more welcome, better connected entrance to the north side of the library facility and corresponding buildings.
