MOA Fire Station #4
Anchorage, Alaska
BDS performed design and construction administration services for this major renovation and addition project. The existing 6,300 SF station was designed for earlier times, and included less than 10 semi-private dormitory areas, a 400 SF dining and kitchen area, and a 3,000 SF multi-use area for apparatus, bay, workshop, storage, lockers, and laundry.
The new design adds a second access route along a busy corridor, and utilizes the building’s reusable features such as slab and structure where possible.
The new station features a 900 SF kitchen and dining area, 4,000 SF apparatus bay (with separate storage, decontamination, secure medic supplies, laundry, and communications areas), an outdoor storage area with protected fuel tank room and generator room, 13 private dormitory rooms in their own wing with A.D.A. showers/baths, a lounge, fitness area, centrally located administrative offices, a classic brick veneer exterior façade with improved signage, and interior finishes fitting to a modern home-away-from-home for Anchorage fire fighters.
